cperkins510 Posted September 23, 2021 Share #6 Posted September 23, 2021 The ER prefix before the serial number is a post war code. They didn’t have the two letter prefixes during WWII.

JLSP Posted September 23, 2021 Author Share #8 Posted September 23, 2021 So when they have a prefix in front of the number,is it post-war?
cperkins510 Posted September 23, 2021 Share #9 Posted September 23, 2021 There are some single letter prefixes that they had during the war (O- would be officer, for instance), but the two letter codes came later and would be post war.

ROCKET Posted September 24, 2021 Share #12 Posted September 24, 2021 The J.B. Brown tag is going to be difficult to find info since you only have his first and last initials and the name "Brown" is very common. I checked the WWII Enlistment Records and there were 24 J.B. Brown's and none of them matched the service number on the dog tag. John
