Alamo Posted September 17, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2021 From what i can gather it fits HGU-2 also? Will it work on APH-6 ? They look the same to me but i'm trying to learn.
AMT500E Posted September 18, 2021 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2021 the basic contour of the APH/ HGU shell is the same throughout pretty much the entire range. The later variants had the brow and nape areas of the shell cut back further for needed enhancements, but the crown area and part most affected by a visor install, remain the same. That sed, sometimes you encounter a visor type (correct size you need, Lg/Med) that wont slide freely or contacts the housing when raised but with a little adjustment or spacing, this can usually (not always) be corrected. Sometimes, the needed adjustment(s) are not worth the effort for a modification. Mixing and matching is not the best approach to a helmet reset and then of course there's always the "Technical Order" to govern validity. However I've done it over the years with success for the most part on several helmets in my collection. Remember, a MBU 12/14 nose cut on a 33 visor lens, might look "strange" on an early APH-6 unless a later era, custom fit (w/ leather edgeroll) model and with a later MBU mask (12/14). Finally, a correct replacement would look best. The photo below is of a styrene like (hard plastic) Navy model by Gentex for APH-6 (or HGU if you wish ;-)
