USMC_COLLECTOR Posted September 17, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2021 Hey guys, can anyone tell me what service uniforms these are? My great-grandfather was in the Navy during WWII so I'm trying to assemble a uniform to pay tribute to that. Any help would be awesome! (He is the man on the left, but I would like to know both please.)

(He is the man on the left, but I would like to know both please.) The left is dungarees. Standard daily working uniform. Blue cotton chambray work shirt and blue denim trousers. Black shoes the right is an officer in working khaki. Khaki shirt and trousers.

sigsaye Posted September 17, 2021 Share #4 Posted September 17, 2021 Just now, sigsaye said: This is a pic of a reproduced WW2 dungaree uniform. Just took a good look at the uniform. Ignore it. The shirt is wrong.
sigsaye Posted September 17, 2021 Share #5 Posted September 17, 2021 These are a bit better. The B&W photo is WW2. The color photo is a reproduction, but more accurate than the first one I posted.
29navy Posted September 17, 2021 Share #6 Posted September 17, 2021 You can get repro dungarees and chambray shirt at WWII Impressions or At The Front.
USMC_COLLECTOR Posted September 17, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted September 17, 2021 Thanks! I did notice the pockets on the shirt... Is that the same as the dungaree shirt?
USMC_COLLECTOR Posted September 17, 2021 Author Share #8 Posted September 17, 2021 And, did Navy midshipmen ever wear roughout boots? Or was it exclusive to the Navy crewmen who worked with the Marines?

Or was it exclusive to the Navy crewmen who worked with the Marines? I doubt Midshipmen wore them much. And, they weren’t universally worn by Sailors on ships. Photos show us that, while they were worn, more reenactors wear them than actual Sailors did. As their shoes wore out, they replaced them with what they could get.
