US Infantry Equipment Proposed and Submitted for Trial by Colonel Hanger in 1878

Hello,

 

I have posted examples for the set of infantry equipment proposed and submitted for trial by Colonel Hanger in 1878. The equipment includes a:

 

Model 1876 45-70 cartridge (prairie) belt with the three brass wire loops for equipment including the bayonet

Triangular leather frog and metal scabbard with a brass hook to attach the 1873 Springfield trapdoor bayonet to the cartridge belt,

Model 1878 clothing/blanket bag with leather shoulder straps,

Model 1874-1878 haversack with leather sling. and 

Model 1878 canteen and leather sling

I have to disagree with you on that, they look righteous Indian War vintage to me.

Yes the utensils are fine. There are several variants. Round and pointed tip knives, steel and lead rimmed handles, cast steel handles, most marked US.
