Wake1941 Posted September 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2021 Picked this up this weekend, rather well made. No hallmarks I’m assuming it’s 30s period. 1 7/8 inch
5thwingmarty Posted September 14, 2021 Share #2 Posted September 14, 2021 That is a nice looking little wing. Sorry I cannot help identify what it may have been for, whether just a sweetheart piece or to commemorate someone who did a lot of flying for the Army Corps of Engineers. I am not aware of the Corps having an aviation section but they might have.
Allan H. Posted September 15, 2021 Share #3 Posted September 15, 2021 Maybe it is supposed to be a play on "aviation engineers" or something along those lines. I have an engineer castle with parachute wings affixed that came from a 307th Engineer veteran. Allan
5thwingmarty Posted September 15, 2021 Share #4 Posted September 15, 2021 I did some browsing on ebay and found examples of patches for the USMC 1st MAC Aviation Engineers. The patch has a winged castle, so possibly this wing is associated with them? I don't know if the gold color of the pin would indicate Navy/USMC vs. Army or not. Attached is an example of such a patch currently on ebay.
