collector Posted September 12, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2021 Wondering how it was determined which of the two pistol types were issued pilots and aircrew. I've looked at pictures and see a mix.
Steve Brannan Posted September 12, 2021 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2021 From what I’ve seen, Navy and Marine Corps pilots usually carried a Victory Model S&W.38 revolver. Army Air Force issued M1911 .45 Autos.

TurdFerguson Posted October 12, 2021 Share #4 Posted October 12, 2021 Based on what I have read in Canfields book, it was a crap shoot.
ottodog8 Posted October 12, 2021 Share #5 Posted October 12, 2021 What era are you thinking of? In the 1950s the Air Force went to revolvers. Steve
Spathologist Posted October 17, 2021 Share #6 Posted October 17, 2021 I was Army aircrew. Between 1987 and 1990, I received a S&W .38 revolver, then a M1911, then a Colt .38 revolver marked to the Border Patrol with no rifling left, then a M9. IOW, total crap shoot.
