Back in the early 1990s, a co-worker would tell me of his experiences in an armored unit of the New York national Guard, probabaly in the 1960s, though I have no firm dates. He vividly told of how his eardrums were ruptured while practice firing tank guns and how the nurse thought he had ear wax and so pouring in a cleaning agent! Her said he went through the roof with pain and a doctor reprimanded the nurse.

He also told me that, one time, he and another snuck into an office and stole a guidon. He later gave me this. It is the Divisional Guidon of the 42nd Infantry Division. Nylon, it is regulation 29 inches hoist by 27 inches fly with a swallowtail. I include a pic of one of the sewn-in leather tabs that fit over a button post on a guidon staff.
