stratasfan Posted October 6, 2021 Share #9 Posted October 6, 2021 Well, the number looks like 6-?-?-4. Was it common to paint your own cammo? That's cool it was saved form a rag mill!

FT.Monmouth1943 Posted October 6, 2021 Share #12 Posted October 6, 2021 Was not expecting this, but I’m pretty sure this jacket was used in the Korean War. I found a Robert M DeCastro on ancestry who served with the 1st MarDiv in Korea and his service number appears to match up. It looks like 1036584 is written in the jacket, which is his service number. - Jakob
louie Posted October 10, 2021 Share #13 Posted October 10, 2021 It might have been his go to town jacket. I don't think they would have allowed you to wear this jacket on duty. Same as the Japanese jump jackets that guys had made up in Japan with the 11th Airborne. 11th Marines is my old unit but from a later date. They are the 1st Marine Div. arty regiment. Still stationed at Camp Pendleton today. In my days of ragging I did find one or two Korean Era blouses w/ a patch, but doubt these were ever worn for inspection, more like liberty cuffs when you went to town.
