militbuff Posted September 9, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2021 I just picked up this metal plane model. Does anyone know the make of it and when it dates from?
Flightpath Posted September 9, 2021 Share #2 Posted September 9, 2021 Hi, it´s hard to say as it looks to be a bit of a mix, as it has no obvious gun turrets, the fuselage and vertical stabilizer looks a bit like a civilian version of the RAF Short Sunderland called the Sandringham. The front looks a little like a Boeing Clipper but has no ´wings´on the lower fuselage and only one vertical stabilizer. So I´d go with a stylized model of a Sunderland/Sandringham. As for the age of the model, it might be made during 1940s/50s or right up until now, there´s no real way to tell as I´ve seen alloy aircraft models and lamps with alloy aircraft on them made and sold pretty recently.. It looks a bit rough for someone to make it for themselves or a gift (the rough props for example), is there anything written on the base of the stand? militbuff Posted September 9, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted September 9, 2021 Thanks for your informative reply. There is no writing anywhere on the airplane or on the base.
militbuff Posted September 9, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted September 9, 2021 Here are some pics of the underside of the wings and backs of the props. The props turn nicely.
manayunkman Posted September 9, 2021 Share #5 Posted September 9, 2021 Very unusual construction. I lean more towards post 1980s.

After seeing the underside I´d agree, most likely made in India, a lot of aluminium retro items are made there. 2 hours ago, manayunkman said:
