Flashlarue Posted September 7, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2021 The best I can figure is this is an equipment tag meant to be tacked a wooden crate. Camp Lee became Fort Lee in Virginia in 1950 so it is at least that old. Anyone have any ideas? Oh, it is about 1 1/4 inches across.
Maxrobot Posted September 12, 2021 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2021 Is it stamped or cast? Tarnished brass? Plated? It is pretty small. Do you think the letters were stamped in after manufacture?
Flashlarue Posted September 12, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted September 12, 2021 It appears to be cast with Camp Lee hand stamped. The metal looks to be brass oxidized on the face but the reverse may have traces of black paint.
rtd_sf_eng Posted November 9, 2021 Share #4 Posted November 9, 2021 Camp Lee was first established in June 1917 until it was turned over to the state of Virginia in 1918, when it was turned into a game preserve. In October 1940 the camp was reactivated until April 1950 when the installation was redesignated as a Fort.
