Checkermann1 Posted September 7, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2021 Hey, Is this M3 fighting knife original?
mikedon Posted September 7, 2021 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2021 No. There were no WWII M3's marked like that or with that pommel.
Checkermann1 Posted September 7, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted September 7, 2021 ok, thanks for your help. then the search continues. I hope I find a nice original
SKIPH Posted September 7, 2021 Share #4 Posted September 7, 2021 Checkermann1- No! It's a reproduction. US M3 with makers name were stamped on the opposite side of the blade. As mikedon stated the pommel is not correct either. SKIP
mikedon Posted September 7, 2021 Share #5 Posted September 7, 2021 I would recommend investing in Bill Walters book. It is the best book covering M3's out there.
Checkermann1 Posted September 7, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted September 7, 2021 thank you for the book tip. I was already looking for suitable literature. until then I need support 😉
Checkermann1 Posted September 7, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted September 7, 2021 What do you think of that? original? it was clearly re-sharpened ...
mikedon Posted September 7, 2021 Share #8 Posted September 7, 2021 It looks original to me. Shown on page 65 of the book. The sharpening reduces the value quite a bit. Imperial is the most common maker.
SKIPH Posted September 7, 2021 Share #9 Posted September 7, 2021 It's a decent Imperial blade marked M3. with a nice, early M8 scabbard. It's used, and sharpened, but was not abused. Buy it. it's legitimate. SKIP
Checkermann1 Posted September 8, 2021 Author Share #10 Posted September 8, 2021 I found it on ebay. with shipping and taxes it will be really expensive. what is the cost of a beautiful original in the USA? I already know a few manufacturers, Utica, Case, imperial .... is there a popular manufacturer among collectors who is rare?
SKIPH Posted September 8, 2021 Share #11 Posted September 8, 2021 Checkermann1- At this time M3s in excellent to mint condition are very pricey. They command very high prices, and I mean high. Robeson (RCC) in my opinion are the rarest, and very expensive in mint condition. Imperial made the most M3s well over 800,000, close to half of all production, and are usually the least expensive. I suggest watch ebay for a while to get an idea of prices (which tend to be high). All makers of WW2 M3s are as follows: Aerial, Boker, Camillus. Case, Imperial, Kinfolks, PAL, RCC, Utica. Good Luck! Checkermann1 Posted September 8, 2021 Author Share #12 Posted September 8, 2021 thank you for your detailed description. I can really use luck. i'm looking at ebay the whole time ... i think i'm good with the imperial. case I've also found a few, is priced the same as the imperial. what would you prefer? case or imperial? mikedon Posted September 8, 2021 Share #13 Posted September 8, 2021 It would depend on condition and variation. Case M3's are less common. 854,000 Imperials made during WWII, 300,465 Case M3's.

Thank you for your answer. they look roughly the same in terms of condition. then I will probably lean more towards a used case
Checkermann1 Posted September 9, 2021 Author Share #15 Posted September 9, 2021 I think I found something nice. I personally like used things more ... it doesn't have to be mint. what do you think of these M3?
SKIPH Posted September 9, 2021 Share #16 Posted September 9, 2021 It's a nice CASE blade marked with an early M8 scabbard. It's legit! SKIP
Checkermann1 Posted September 10, 2021 Author Share #17 Posted September 10, 2021 I would like it too. but is the price of 1.6k $ reasonable? With tax und Transfer...puhhh
SKIPH Posted September 10, 2021 Share #18 Posted September 10, 2021 I don't know, that sure seems very high priced to me. But, prices are have skyrocketed these days anyway. It's your decision. SKIP
Checkermann1 Posted September 11, 2021 Author Share #19 Posted September 11, 2021 I will think about it. Maybe I'll find something similar ... which is a little cheaper. The main thing is that it is original and used.
Checkermann1 Posted September 15, 2021 Author Share #20 Posted September 15, 2021 what do you think of this M3? original?
SKIPH Posted September 16, 2021 Share #21 Posted September 16, 2021 It's an original guard marked UTICA. Has sharpening, and wear, finish is well worn, but a good legitimate M3. SKIP
