KommandoPost Posted September 6, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 6, 2021 I found this over the weekend at a swap meet. The seller told me it came with a couple ERDL jungle jackets, which unfortunately sold before I found it. Was the C-1 vest used late enough into the war where ripstop ERDL was introduced? Jpage Posted September 7, 2021 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2021 There is at least one picture of an F-105 pilot wearing one. Circa 1965 or 66 I think.
mohawkALSE Posted September 8, 2021 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2021 Some pics I took at the USAF museum showing use of what looks to be modified C-1 in later-mid 60s. If they aren't modified C-1s they might be the radio vests modified.

dmar836 Posted September 8, 2021 Share #5 Posted September 8, 2021 Weren't later ones made of nylon? The one posted by the OP might have been used for fishing or something as well. I say that primarily because I have never seen a rigger applied feature, or one done by anyone with a modicum of sewing experience(hand or machine) for that matter, that looks this poorly applied, It appears to be done by hand with incorrect thread(actually string) and very sloppy technique. If you look closely you can see that the original pockets beneath this "repair" appear to have been torn off at some point ripping the vest in multiple spots. This ERDL pocket might have been installed to disguise that damage. Even if installed to return it to military service, I would not expect that combo of thread or technique - at all. Certainly isn't rigger applied. Cool mod but just not sure how this one was used.
