ocsfollowme Posted September 3, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 3, 2021 Thanks in advance. Spent a good 1.15 hours looking in reverse image, WW2 AF squadron patches, several other websites. Observation? Is the green thing a camera? Is it a coyote? Kangaroo? Dog? Dingo?
Steindaddie Posted September 3, 2021 Share #2 Posted September 3, 2021 While I do not know the squadron's ID, I would hazard a guess that it is navy, and that the device under his arm is a depth bomb. A twin tail juts out his stern - this could signify a PV Ventura or Harpoon squadron, but it could also be a PBM Mariner outfit. (The galoshes worn might add to that - operating in water) It bears a slight resemblance to VP-212 ->
ocsfollowme Posted September 3, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted September 3, 2021 Great idea. Could be a Mark 38 aerial depth bomb and they are green. Will look Navy now!

Jeffro Posted September 4, 2021 Share #5 Posted September 4, 2021 Steindaddie’s got it. VPB-212. The yellow version above was actually the rejected original design submitted for approval in 1944 according to The Dictionary of United States Naval Aviation Squadrons Vol.2. It was apparently rejected for being too cartoonish. Coincidentally, here is a piece of squadron letterhead posted on EBay.
