I just got this Navy Flight helmet.

Its a first for me as the only ones I have had are AirCorps.

I am not at all familiar with these but it looked good to me in a gut feeling kind of way so I went for it !

Its a small but the styrofoam dummy head it will go on, will be fine.

Howd I do?

Thank you.

Thank you Jerry.

You know, it almost looks like it was never used.... ?

I also notice that they did not punch any little holes in the lining where the earphones are.

different than the A11.

Should it be marked USN on the outside anywhere?

I read that there should be USN on the lower left side on the outside like debossed into the leather. I dont see anything though

but I dont have it in hand yet.

Hi Rooster. Sorry for delay.

The little holes inside a helmet for better sounds flows is popular but not obligatory. They also use in mostly cases a extra powder puffs.

Yes, it should be marked with small black USN letter at the back side.

I noticed some of MINT examples in the past. Please remember that most of the materials are available to purchased separately today: helmet, chin strap, earphones cups or powder puffs. It is easy to sewed it today with some sewing machine skills. I always prefer more a used, salty examples than MINT ones.

Take care,

Jerry

Thank you Jerry.

I dont know if its mint or not.

The seller had it marked as an Air Corps helmet and I knew that was wrong.

I was wondering, were any of these issued without the USN

mark on the outside for use by the Marine Corps?

Usmc used the same helmets from usn stocks. This usn at the back it is not the most important thing...

Some of the 1092L helmets were contraced NOm for paramarine only.

Regards,

Jerry

I got the helmet in today. Its not mint. But its in great condition like never issued condition.

Inside the ear cups the metal on the earphones has some oxidation thats stained the leather.

Stitching is come out on one side of the ear cover at the bottom. It appears sufficiently old, and if it is a knock off someone just threw together

out of parts, which it does not appear to be, it was not done recently. But I'm not definitive after the info you relayed Jerry.

Were some of these rigger made for the Marine Corps pilots during the war?

I have never had one of these Navy type Flight helmets and I noted the heavier thicker construction of the Navy version.

Much more robust than the Air Corps A-11.

But no where to hang an O2 mask. Did the navy and Marine Corps use a different type mask?

The seller also said it was very small, its actually a size 7. Bigger than was stated..
