MattS Posted August 30, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2021 This early M1 stamp has a gap between the 65 and the 2. There’s not a lightly stamped number in between because McCord stamps don’t go to 6500, and even if they did, it wouldn’t be a front seam. Am I correct in my deductions here? Paddyd00 Posted August 30, 2021 Share #2 Posted August 30, 2021 I think that’s Right Matt :). I know @twthmosesis very familiar w early lot numbers as he schooled me (very nicely) on one of mine. Maybe he can fill us in. Always good to see the whole helmet too Z
MattS Posted August 30, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted August 30, 2021 Thanks, just wanted a second opinion as I had someone suggest there was a lightly stamped digit in the gap, but that didn’t make sense to me for the reasons I stated.
CavalryCombatant Posted August 30, 2021 Share #4 Posted August 30, 2021 I would agree, definitely looks like 65 2 to me. Out of curiosity does it have fixed or swivel bales? Early mccord fixed bales were different from later ones, as I understand. And assuming they haven’t been swapped to swivel later on, might help support the theory. Just my 2¢
MattS Posted August 30, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted August 30, 2021 This shell has been refurbished and repainted numerous times and had the bales replaced.
