Flashlarue Posted August 29, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2021 In 1894 Palemon Howard Dorsett claimed a nephew of George Washington gave his family an engraved Great Seal. Gallardo Hunt stated it appeared contemporaneous with the original 1782 Great Seal. In October and November 2007 two more dies matching were discovered in Rhode Island except these were made of silver plated lead while the original was of bronze. The Dorsett seal is now on display at Mount Vernon. A fourth matching seal was found in 2011. Could mine be the fifth?
digi-shots Posted August 29, 2021 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2021 Very interesting. It does show the same flaws as the other known pieces. Do you know the background of yours… where found etc?
Flashlarue Posted September 1, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted September 1, 2021 I found my die at an outdoor flea market in Arizona. There is no information on how it came to be in Arizona.
