Japanese gun sight ID help please

A friend found this today and offered to post it here to find out what he found.  Does anyone know what is, goes on, value, and maybe read the writing on the case lid? 

 

I'm assuming it is a WW2 Japanese gunsight of some type.

It is probably for a Japanese Machine gun, you may want to post this on the sister, world militaria forum,

It is a Model 96 (1936) telescopic Sight for the Type 92 Heavy Machine Gun. The characters running down the center of the case lid are 15609, corresponding to the sight, which I assume is the serial number of the gun the sight was matched to.
