WWII Marine officer's Good Conduct Medal issued in 1950

This Marine was commissioned in WWII and sometime after the war ended he went back to enlisted status. In 1950 he received an engraved Good Conduct Medal and when I first saw that I was confused because I didn't know he was enlisted. He enlisted March 1942 and was a  PFC before going to OCS and getting commissioned. In the Muster Rolls he last shows up as a 1st Lt. in October 1946. The next time he shows up in the rolls is as a Staff Sgt. in January 1948. I assume his first GCM covers the  post-1948 service and the pre-OCS service?

The online USMC Muster Rolls only go up to 1958, but prior that he spent most of the 50's as part of Marine detachments on the USS Missouri, the Forrestal, and the Shangri-La. During WWII he was in the air wing, stateside as a PFC. After OCS he trained as an aviation engineering officer.  After reenlisting as a Staff Sgt, he did a variety of things. He was aboard the Missouri for the Naval Acadamy's 1951 Midshipmen Summer Cruise.  But earlier he had been with the Mighty Mo on the east coast of Korea - or "Koren" as it's spelled here:
