utica3 Posted August 20, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 20, 2021 Hello, I have couple of belt rigs I haven't shown yet. Here is an early 1900s enlisted man's belt rig. It includes a Model 1874 saber belt with a US oval belt plate. It has a Rock Island arsenal mark, HEK inspector initials and 1903 date. Mills Patent (1881) Mckeever 45-70 cartridge box. Model 1892 Colt 38 DA holster. The pattern of the 1892 holster is a little bit of a mystery to me. It is Rock Island arsenal marked, has EHS initials on the flap and russet. No date on the flap and has the medium belt loop (which is a characteristic of the second pattern). In 1903, the model 1892 holster changed from black bride finish to russet, and the arsenal mark and inspector initials were moved to the back of the belt loop. A date was also placed on the back of the belt loop accompanying the arsenal mark. Since this holster still has the arsenal mark on the flap and no date, my guess is this holster is a 5th pattern transition holster manufactured in 1902. Model 1896 Colt 38 DA revolver cartridge box and Model 1903 saber attachment marked RIA, HEK and a 1903 date I could use some assistance identifying the campaign hat model. I bought it last week. I have narrowed it down to the model 1902 or 1904 due to the star shaped vents. It has the two bands of thread around the brim like the model 1902 but the felt is not rolled under and sewn. It doesn't have the holes for the chin strap like the 1904 model. My guess is that it is a private purchase model 1902. Crown height is 5 inches, brim 2.5 inches and sweat band 1 inch. rayg Posted August 26, 2021 Share #3 Posted August 26, 2021 I'm up in years in age and have been selling off my collection including my 89, 1901, and 1903 campaign hats. And I have two nice 1889 campaign hats remaining. let me know if you are interested in a 89 one. Ray
