semperbee Posted August 19, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2021 Found these at a sale today, M1 helmet and canteen set. Helmet has front rim seam and stamped 521B on front, inside. The chip strap buckle seems to be brass, no liner was with the helmet. The canteen & cover I believe are from 1942-43? The canteen cover markings are hard to read and the canteen is lightly stamped "S.M.CO" with the date almost worn/faded away. I can just make out the "194" and the top part of a "2" or "3". The canteen was missing the cup.

semperbee Posted August 19, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted August 19, 2021 Is there any other info Navy related you can tell by his SN, unit or ship? I was wondering if he might have been in the Seabees.
29navy Posted August 19, 2021 Share #6 Posted August 19, 2021 WWII Navy numbers are usually 123-45-67. So it's not quite navy.
semperbee Posted August 20, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted August 20, 2021 I'm thinking the helmet was made by McCord Radiator in the 1941 to mid 1943 time frame.

The heat stamp should put it about mid summer 1943. Nice original corking and paint, plus early war chinstraps!
