hink441 Posted August 16, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 16, 2021 I found a USN 5” 38 cal brass shell casing from 1944. They want $69 for the shell. What is a good price?? Thank you for the help. Chris Link to comment
hink441 Posted August 16, 2021 Author Share #2 Posted August 16, 2021 Never mind, I went ahead and bought the shell case. Link to comment
917601 Posted August 21, 2021 Share #3 Posted August 21, 2021 I would say yes you paid a fair price. It is becoming clear all WW2 dated shells and projectiles are hard to find. Navy cases are not in huge demand but those collecting Naval items would pay more, maybe $100, plus? Link to comment
917601 Posted August 22, 2021 Share #4 Posted August 22, 2021 You may know this, but the 5” was a separate loaded ( not fixed, crimped) round. The case was stored separately from the projectile. See picture. Notice the case had a phenolic plug which held the powder in place. The projectile was loaded first, then the case loaded. Link to comment
lilfry14 Posted August 24, 2021 Share #5 Posted August 24, 2021 That's a good price and if you found it online, you'd have to spend another $30-50 shipping; so take it if you can pick it up locally. Link to comment

hink441 Posted September 9, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted September 9, 2021 Any idea what the “B” in the diamond and the “GB” indicates? Link to comment
