TSC Posted August 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2021 Hello, Looking for some guidance and opinions on these patches. The 2 on the left came from one collection and the 2 on the right were from a recent acquisition. I'm wanting to keep a set but noticed the star on the left is not quite positioned correctly and the new set is somewhat wider. Maybe they are not worth keeping or maybe they are post WW2. All opinions are welcome. Thanks.
Eric Queen Posted August 13, 2021 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2021 IMO all are originals but if I had to pick a set I would definitely keep the set on the left.
Blacksmith Posted August 13, 2021 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2021 I generally agree with Eric, as the “snowy” backs tend to be more desirable to collectors. That said, I like the skull on the one on the right better, which I think collectors refer to as the “Casper” version.

Siamundo Posted August 16, 2021 Share #5 Posted August 16, 2021 I too agree with the previous posts that all 4 of your patches are WW II vintage-perhaps just manufacturer variations. For reference, here are three other pairs with similar differences between fat and thin fat detail/diamond border/stars
TSC Posted August 16, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted August 16, 2021 Thanks for the posting your examples. I have noticed the thin/thick variations, good to confirm this as well.
