What does MCP stand for on this dog tag?

Oh, I'm interested in what you hear, too! Can't think of something . . . isn't that where the Religios preference would be? All I can think is   Methodist Catholic Protestant . . . Maybe they were undecided! ;)

😕  a bit confused, were they?

I've read that during WW 2 there were 3 choices-"P" for Protestant, "C" for Catholic, or "H" for Jewish (Hebrew)

That's usually the spot for branch - USN, USNR, USMC, USMCR...Not familiar with MCP. Since they are of the Navy USMC style, My guess is something to do with them.

I looked in military acronyms and found "Meritorious Commissioning Program"

Maybe he was enlisted being trained to be an officer?

 Probably an error. The maker most likely failed to space the P for Protestant or perhaps MCR, Marine Corps Reserve.
