ccyooper Posted August 6, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2021 This M69 appears to have a WWII period painted shell. Any ideas why it would be yellow?
opus5150 Posted August 6, 2021 Share #2 Posted August 6, 2021 I've seen them painted blue, and I've seen them painted black, but this is the first yellow one I've seen. Since there was no HE in this round, I think it was painted by someone post war, or by a practice mortar round recovery crew that was tired of looking for the hard to see black rounds in the dirt after a practice fire mission. 917601 Posted August 6, 2021 Share #3 Posted August 6, 2021 The question has two parts. 1) the color appears to be the authentic Federal Standard color. 2) Almost ALL collector repainted rounds do not use the TM FS standard as those colors are very hard to find. So, we can assume it was painted by the manufacturer or the unit using it. The answer is unlikely to ever be answered.
