Howlingriffon Posted August 6, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2021 This is one that I stripped and am attempting to restore. Half of the seam is gone and it was caked in old paint so I really can't hurt it. Trying to get the correct color for WW2, I first got a OD that I thought was good and did that. Reading about the rattle can Krylon OD, then did half in that. Didn't like either so I took a helmet to Lowes and had them color match. Comments, questions or advice always welcomed. Thank you. phil b Posted August 6, 2021 Share #2 Posted August 6, 2021 i found that paint from 1944militaria is a good match............i matches the helmets i have in my collection
MattS Posted August 6, 2021 Share #3 Posted August 6, 2021 I like the darker half, looks close. Here's the only one I have handy, light khaki 2" net and late OD chin straps:
Howlingriffon Posted August 10, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted August 10, 2021 Thanks all. The paint I had mixed was for a "sample" size but is enough to easily do 50+ helmets - for $4...
gap Posted August 10, 2021 Share #5 Posted August 10, 2021 I prefer the lighter shade. Which one did you have mixed at Lowe’s? Is it latex?
Howlingriffon Posted August 10, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted August 10, 2021 Both actually. The lighter is an off the shelf color. I'll post the code later. They are are both latex and satin. I think the sheen is perfect. The rattle can was way too flat.
BOLO Posted September 1, 2021 Share #7 Posted September 1, 2021 the darker shade reminds me of a Korean war repaint
