Just picked up this abc m17 at the 47th annual east coast military vehicle rally yesterday

This is an M1-1-5 Optical Gas Mask, circa the 1940’s:

 

 

 

 

The gold-toned plaster thing (I’ve dubbed him Maurice) is an WWII Army Chemical Corps head used to display respiratory masks.

Hey, PMAN12094, that plaster head was a lucky find. Someone was going to throw it out and I happened to be there.

Looks like a Vietnam era one and cool it has the optical inserts installed.

Those are the early optical inserts (I still have mine)  The later ones have a dark plastic frame with two short metal prongs on each end that stuck into the rubber.  They didn't stay in place very well and were horrifying if they came loose because then you had the sharp metal prongs waving in front of your eyes!
