KommandoPost Posted August 4, 2021 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2021 I found this Marine Corps Mess Dress jacket at a thrift store. The only marking is this stamp in the collar: The buttons are marked "Waterbury Button Co.": There are no other stamps, handwritten text, or labels on the jacket. The ribbons and collar insignia were removed as well. Does anyone know when this item could have been made? If I had to guess it would be 50's or 60's at the latest due to all the bullion wire everywhere. Can a mod please move this thread to the main uniforms board? I seem to have accidentally placed it in the buttons sub-forum.
warguy Posted August 4, 2021 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2021 It’s a post WWII second pattern type. The first pattern pre WWII had different braid in the sleeves, etc. I think you could be right with 50’s-60’s date. Don’t know if you can pin it down closer than that. SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted August 5, 2021 Share #3 Posted August 5, 2021 First time it shows up in regs is the 1949 uniform regs. Not sure when it was actually introduced though
