WW1 US Mk I Grenade

Here is my WW1 Mk I US Grenade. This Grenade in its configuration did not last long, mainly due to the fuse. It was deemed too complex and often in battle situations if not all the steps were taken to arm the Grenade, the enemy could just pick it up, finish the steps and throw it back. It was condemned in May of 1918. However, the bodies were still used with later improved fuses. This particular model has the first type bouchon with smooth sides, later ones had tightening lugs on the sides. Typically these types were given a rust proof coating that gave the Grenade a black color.
