I am proud to be the new caretaker of First Lieutenant Ralph S. Dold's Jacket (right).  Lieutenant Dold and Lieutenant Langdon (left) were both assigned to the 3rd Balloon Co. and likely knew each other well.  A highlight of Dold's service was the time his balloon came under attack and he parachuted to safety.  I miss having Terry (@hawk3370) around the Wing Badges Forum and it is gratifying to know I can help preserve a piece from his collection.

Dold's uniform has an interesting, likely British-made 2nd-type Observer badge.  I find it interesting that both Lieutenants clearly chose to wear non-regulation badges.  Lt Langdon wore the obsolete 1st-type Observer badge, while Lt Dold chose a very stylish, RFC-inspired badge.

Chris, seeing the torch passed from one caretaker to another can be difficult... but we rest easy knowing this historical artifact will be honored and well cared for in your possession. Congratulations!
