RememberThe5thESB Posted July 31, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2021 Photograph from my grandfather's time in South Korea (Between 62' and 65'), don't know who is in the photo, but the passenger in the jeep with the steel pot on has a camo pattern painted on it I haven't seen before. It doesn't appear very messy or poorly done, has anyone else see a pattern like this? Sent from my SM-J327V using Tapatalk
Justin Posted July 31, 2021 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2021 Cool photo, could be a piece of scrap material that the individual painted a pattern onto
digi-shots Posted July 31, 2021 Share #3 Posted July 31, 2021 Looks a bit like Swiss Alpenflage.
manayunkman Posted July 31, 2021 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2021 He’s serving in the Pacific so I think it’s Japanese camouflage taken from a garment bag.

manayunkman Posted July 31, 2021 Share #6 Posted July 31, 2021 It might be Korean camouflage.
LE LOUP DES MERS Posted August 3, 2021 Share #7 Posted August 3, 2021 The camouflage seems to be frog skin as in was being used well into Vietnam and japanese camo does not look that I have compared the two and it's a pretty close match. The bottom photo is the guys helmet sitting next to your grandpa if you compare his helmet with frog skin camo it's pretty close. Hope this helps
LE LOUP DES MERS Posted August 3, 2021 Share #8 Posted August 3, 2021 The more I look at the photos I'm 100% sure it's frog skin look at the white and brown in his helmet it's an identical match with the frog skin camo.
Justin Posted August 3, 2021 Share #9 Posted August 3, 2021 In my opinion that is not a frog skin cover / pattern. The color standing out most in that shot appears to be a shade of white.

I'm still sticking with frog skin but I understand the what your saying, swiss alpenflage did not come out until the the 90s however you did say looks like it not that it was it. CavalryCombatant Posted August 3, 2021 Share #11 Posted August 3, 2021 I’d have to agree I don’t think it’s frogskin, but I could be wrong. Frogskin seems more patchy whereas that camouflage seems to be larger chunks of a single color.
Justin Posted August 3, 2021 Share #12 Posted August 3, 2021 Frogskin camouflage is light OD base with the dark splotches forming the pattern. The photo shows the opposite of that, even NOS frogskin camouflage would show more dull in a photo than the photo in question, which is distinctly different. LE LOUP DES MERS Posted August 3, 2021 Share #13 Posted August 3, 2021 I did some picture editing to try to see if I'm right or wrong you guys might be right but let me know what you think, honestly after reading some of what you guys were saying I am half and half on if it's frog skin or not. Sadly we will never know unless the dude wearing the helmet is still alive.

elh1311 Posted August 4, 2021 Share #15 Posted August 4, 2021 This link might help. The cover appears to be a 1960's-1970's Duck Hunter pattern camo cover from the Republic of Korea. VARIOUS HELMET COVERS - Brendon's Helmets (weebly.com)

manayunkman Posted August 4, 2021 Share #17 Posted August 4, 2021 The helmet cover that started this post has large dark splotches that don’t match any US frog-skin that I have seen. If you can match up those cross shaped splotches to a frog skin you’ll have my vote.

It doesn't really get into specifics so it's wild guess on my part.
elh1311 Posted August 5, 2021 Share #19 Posted August 5, 2021 There's also this one, another South Korean duck hunter variant. I don't know. The web page has some unique helmet covers for sure. http://brendonshelmets.weebly.com/various-helmet-covers.html
