GLCC74 Posted July 29, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2021 Here is my S&W US M1917 revolver. The revolver is stamped "US Army model of 1917", "No. 28,426", which puts date of manufacture in 1918. The holster is marked 1917, as shown in the image below. I also have a period lanyard, and the 3 pocket web pouch for the half moon clips. Additionally I have a box of period .45 ammo for this revolver with the half moon clips as well as the packing crate these boxes came in. This revolver is very robust, slightly larger than the previous .38 caliber models.

jsalberry92 Posted July 29, 2021 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2021 Beautiful gun! The ammo on clips is hard to find and I have never seen a crate before 😵
Scottz63 Posted July 31, 2021 Share #5 Posted July 31, 2021 That is a beautiful M1917. Very nice! Cool ammo crate as well. I had never seen one before. Somewhere around Army butt number 30,000 the cylinders were changed to allow loading and firing .45acp without the need for clips. I was wondering if yours bieng close to that number was machined for that or do the rounds without clips sit down almost flush? Mine is an early one and the rounds sit down almost flush necessitating the use of clips. Just curious.
Brian Keith Posted July 31, 2021 Share #6 Posted July 31, 2021 WOW! Never seen a US Military ammo crate with the silhouette of the firearm before! SUPER! Proper use of "clips" also! Thanks for posting these great items! BKW
silverplate Posted July 31, 2021 Share #7 Posted July 31, 2021 Very nice set-up. The packing box is really difficult to find. Here's an example in my collection from Remington-UMC.

GLCC74 Posted August 1, 2021 Author Share #9 Posted August 1, 2021 Scottz63, here are photos with the ammo, it does not appear mine go in as far as yours does. They sit a little farther back, first picture has 3 rounds on a clip and last picture shows a single round.
