GLCC74 Posted July 26, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 26, 2021 I have a 1909 dated US Enlisted tunic with two collar disks on each side of the collar. It is missing one of the rimless buttons by the collar. Overall fairly good shape, a few minor moth holes, not nothing major.
bheskett Posted July 26, 2021 Share #2 Posted July 26, 2021 That is a very tough coat to find. Congrats. There is also a cotton version. The double disks ony asted a year or two.

GLCC74 Posted July 26, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted July 26, 2021 Thanks for the kind remarks. I have seen the khaki cotton version before, but not had the chance to get one for the collection.
TrenchRat Posted July 27, 2021 Share #6 Posted July 27, 2021 That is a very nice coat. As mentioned, this is a difficult service coat to come upon. I say this coat has to be the most altered coat in the pre-war and world war period with many coats upgraded and integrated into use for the coming war. Years prior to the Great War, the 1909 was altered for a very short time to a standing collar (1910) that featured the double-disk arrangement. These coats are more rare as the DD arrangement on a standing collar was only in use for a merely a year or so. When the United States entered the Great War, there was of course a massive shortage of just about everything the growing army needed, and in particular, service uniforms. To augment what the QM had on hand, old 1909 pattern coats were put into service. Many were issued as they were but most were altered to meet the Spec. No. 1125, the specification for the 1911 coat currently in service. Period Great War photos show this coat in Europe as issued, however, with only a pair of disks being used. Also, these coats were found to be fully upgraded to match #1125, (standing collar and patch pockets) and some with only the collar upgrade and the bellowed pockets retained. I'll submit my 1909 in three of the four variants I have; the 1909 as issued, with the double disk arrangement on the standing collar and a coat fully upgraded to match spec. no. 1125 (I'll include the manufacturer's label from the upgraded coat so it is clear this coat is not one on the 1911 coats that retained the 1909 cuff detail). (Please note that the upgraded coat had its pocket gussets removed and pockets carelessly resewn through the lining!)
