liamtheleaf Posted July 17, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 17, 2021 Hi all. New collector here, don't have much knowledge in the way of insignia. Spent 20 bucks on an M37 shirt at a surplus store. On it was a 28th Division Insignia, it appears hand sewn other than that I don't know much about it. Not too worried as to its originality since I was mainly interested in the shirt, but I'm curious if this patch is original to the shirt. Is it original? The shirt is dated '44. If it's not original is it a later period type or simply a modern recreation? As for this small blue colored chevron, I am almost certain this is not any WW2 type I have ever heard of. I'd appreciate your knowledge as to these patches originality.
KurtA Posted July 17, 2021 Share #2 Posted July 17, 2021 Looks just fine. Shirt and 28th ID patch are WW2 era, but based on the PFC chevron, shirt is as worn from 1948 to 1951.
patches Posted July 18, 2021 Share #3 Posted July 18, 2021 Agree with KurtA, a shirt worn probably when the 28th Inf Div was federalized during the Korean War. Does this shirt have Shoulder Loops? Nah we suspect, As the EM shirts from 1947-48 now are allowed tho wear of shirts like the officers, with Shoulder Loops, and the wearing of Collar Discs, but in some cases the old EM WWII types still were worn, with the Collar Discs. patches Posted July 18, 2021 Share #4 Posted July 18, 2021 Here's a good example, a 4th Army GI 1950-51, this guy here seems to be wearing an Officer Quality Shirt, note the Shoulder Loops and Discs
patches Posted July 18, 2021 Share #5 Posted July 18, 2021 And an example of a Unissued Specifically made EM OD Shirt with Shoulder Loops with a 1948 Date.
