RRA227 Posted February 6, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2009 A friend brought this stuff over for me earlier. He got the buckle, belt, pouch and bayonet in the late 1960's. He was told that the stuff was Indian Wars era. Is it? I did a pic of the ammo pouch with 2 I already have. The 2 I have are smaller. Thanks,Rich A. in Pa. HelmetGuy Posted February 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 7, 2009 That's a Model 1874 belt plate and belt. The pouch is a second type McKeever for .45-70, circa 1876 and later. Not sure on the socket bayonet, never got into those, but I believe that one is earlier than Indian Wars production. Here's a website with quite a few for sale, maybe you can match it up: http://www.jjmilitaryantiques.com/catpage....Type=sockbayous
doyler Posted February 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 7, 2009 Rich, Bayonet appears to be the Civil war model.IThe 1855 socket bayonet. The M1816 was the last bayonet not to have a locking ring. Many of the 1855s were converted for trapdoor use.I have a 1855 and the belt loop and constuction appears to be identical to mine.Sometimes there is an inspectors mark(s) on the leather hanger loop for the belt. Nice finds RON
