Davidcilnius Posted July 14, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2021 Hi, this half M1 helmet was dug out from a former camp base's dump pit in italy. I put it in the oxalic acid and some painting came out. It seems to be USN dark grey with a red band over light grey around the border of the rim. Can you explain me what this means? Thank you
PMAN12094 Posted July 15, 2021 Share #2 Posted July 15, 2021 Possibly damage control I know they had all red helmets but I’m not sure if this one could be one.
Davidcilnius Posted July 15, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted July 15, 2021 The Red band Is painted over and it's like a stripe that follows the helmet all around, it has a lighter grey behind the red. Could it be a beach landing helmet? Like an invasion D-Day helmet for the operation Husky or Avalanche or Shingle? I saw a few of them similar to this also in some topics of this forum
