WorldWarPatches Posted July 11, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 11, 2021 Stuffed in the back of a 3 ring binder inside a bank money envelope! Any idea what era this patch is from?
patches Posted July 12, 2021 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2021 Perhaps it is from the PENTOMIC Era? One of the other Battle Groups of the 9th Infantry.
doughboy Posted July 12, 2021 Share #3 Posted July 12, 2021 I could be wrong but for me it looks like German Made , so it makes sense what patches said.

Yeah its a head scratcher, for all we know it might be a rare worn if worn one from the 50s, pre PENTOMIC Era. There are so far only two verified MANCHU Pocket Patches. This one, which was worn above the U.S. ARMY Tape by the 1st Battle Group 9th Infantry in the early 60s in Alaska, and presumably by the successor units of the 1st Battle Group 9th Infantry, the 4th Battalion 9th Infantry, and the 6th Battalion 9th Infantry, which was activated to replace the 4th Battalion 9th Infantry when that unit was sent away from Alaska and assigned to the 25th Infantry Division at Schoflied Barracks Hawaii and sent on to South Vietnam in the Spring of 1966. And then this one, worn by the 2nd Battle Group 9th Infantry in the late 50s early 60s, a patch based on the Regimental Coat of Arms sans 2nd Division and French Fourragere. 2nd Battle Group 9th Infantry was assigned to its traditional division, the 2nd Infantry Division at Ft Benning Georgia at this time. Hmm I wonder if this one WorldWarPatches posted was worn at one point by the other 9th Infantry units of the period, the 3rd Battle Group 9th Infantry of the Army Reserves 102nd Infantry Division? In 1963 during the ROAD restructure the 3rd Battle Group 9th Infantry is retilted the 3rd Battalion 9th Infantry, with the Ozark Division receiving another 9th Infantry High numbered CARS Battalion to its Order of Battle, the 5th Battalion 9th Infantry. The 102nd Infantry Division along with all the remaining combat divisions of the Army Reserves are inactivated forever by late 1965, so maybe this was worn by these MANCHU units in the Ozark Division in the late 50s till 1965??? Manchu Warrior Posted August 29, 2021 Share #6 Posted August 29, 2021 Far from an expert. But isn't there a slight chance that this is a nice vintage patch that was meant to be sewn onto a soldiers tour jacket?
