JWR813 Posted July 8, 2021 #1 Posted July 8, 2021 Can anyone help me find out how to look up the soldier whose name and serial number are on this German pistol? I did some preliminary internet searching and his full name may be Sam Lee Winfree from Oakland MI. I wasn't able to locate a grave or more information.
Dave Posted July 8, 2021 #4 Posted July 8, 2021 He was a sign hanger and lived in Royal Oak, MI in 1955:

JWR813 Posted July 8, 2021 Author #6 Posted July 8, 2021 Wow! This is amazing. Thank you for finding this. Is there any document that confirms serial number as 36981267? I would like to look at his service records.

You're also probably not going to get his records...not just has NARA shut down, but his records were likely damaged/destroyed in the 1973 fire. This might be the best you can do, unfortunately.
JWR813 Posted July 8, 2021 Author #8 Posted July 8, 2021 Thanks, Dave. I can now put a person to this artifact.
