It was a surplus store find. I didn’t really look to much at the tag when I pulled it off the rack. I have hit a road block with trying to find out what it could be dated.

That NSN 8415-01-329-2770 Coat, Camouflage Pattern  Small Regular, was assigned 19 November 1990, so the Contract No 9027-91 was likely tendered in 1991.

Saddam Insane invaded Kuwait in 2 August 1990, Desert Storm (at least the air campaign) kicked off 17 January 1991 (the night I signed in from PCS leave to Ft Polk, LA, saw the bombing on CNN at the Repo Depot) followed by ground operations on 24 Feb 1991

I think those BDU Coat with the velcro on the left chest are associated with USAF, for attaching the flightsuit/jacket leather nametags.

I’ve always associated the Velcro piece with air force ones I do have a flight suit name tag that my neighbor gave me except I haven’t found it I’m sure I just miss placed it and that I hope I didn’t somehow lose it.

All 1989 ( M65's only to my knowledge ) to 1991 3 colour sets I have seen have all been patched to USAF or top brass which makes sense. I guess fielding a brand new camouflage to front line troops on mass could cause a few blue on blue , so giving it to the first people you see in country ( USAF ) and high profile folk is like advertising it.

  • 1 year later...

.....found one of these at an antique store this past weekend. Doesn't appear to have ever had name tapes or a unit patch sewn on. Got $22 + tax on all three items. Laundry tag says Unicor, Greenville, Ill. Suspect it's a repop meant for the surplus resale aftermarket. Good enough for wearing around. Pouches will be good for something, trade bait if nothing else.
