Hi all,

Found this Bancroft green beret with a hand embroidered 5th Special Forces Group flash. Color is dark green but looks darker in the photos. Unfortunately, it has some moth damage but label and plastic liner are intact.

Appreciate hearing from more knowledgeable forum members.

Thanks,

Jay

It is an older Bancroft beret with the gold lining and they came in either cream colored or like your piece with a black colored label.  There is some debate as to which is older the cream or black colored label.  My reference concerning these berets was that the wool is of a slightly lighter weight than the Canadian or US made green berets and that the wool was vulnerable to mothing.  Unfortunately my reference doesn't go into dates of usage but the hand embroidered 5th SF Grp flash looks real so I think you have yourself a genuine Vietnam War period beret.
