The Laffey is moored at the Naval and Maritime Museum, Patriots Point, at Mt. Pleasant, SC. While she is dwarfed by the USS Yorktown (CV-10), this destroyer is the most decorated US WWII Destroyer still with us today. The 'ship that wouldn't die' has an incredible history and participated in some of the most historical events during WWII and Korea.

Years ago when you could buy Purple Hearts on ebay, I bought a KIA Heart to a sailor who was on the Laffey. If I remember correctly, it was struck by more Kamikaze's (and did not sink) than any other ship during the war. Within a day after the auction, the people who run the museum on the Laffey contacted me via ebay (something else you can't do now). They of course wanted it and I let them have it for what I paid. At the time I just wanted a Navy Heart. Lucky ship.
