donaldnol Posted June 30, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 30, 2021 I bought this a few years ago not knowing the top of the shield was messed with, i'm not sure of it but looks to had a senior star on top?
5thwingmarty Posted June 30, 2021 Share #2 Posted June 30, 2021 I know this pattern continued to be issued after WWII, but I don't think I have ever seen one with a star or a star and wreath on it. This could be a wing that had it's star removed, or one that someone was prepping to add a star to.

pfrost Posted March 8, 2022 Share #8 Posted March 8, 2022 The senior and master aircrew badge wasn't authorized until around the Korean war. So, there were no senior or master A/C ratings during WWII. Both of the wings shown are likely WWII/KW period. There would be no reason to REMOVE a star from a A/C wing during WWII, since they didn't exist. I also doubt anyone would convert a KW vintage senior A/C wing to a regular A/C wing, as the latter would have been very common. I suspect that the damage are simply dings to the wings or perhaps there was a misallignment of the planchet in the die during manufacturing. Neat variations.
