Kansas Raider Posted June 30, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 30, 2021 I do not know if this medal belongs on this site This is a life saving issued by the citizens of Philadelphia to the officers and crew of the Atlantic Trans Line SS Missouri. The back reads FOR HUMANITY and HEROISM, Displayed in rescuing passengers and crew of steamship DANMARK in mid ocean April 1889. I wonder how many medals were given? Allan H. Posted June 30, 2021 Share #3 Posted June 30, 2021 That is a really great medal and, although it isn't strictly a military piece, I do believe that there should be no issue with posting it here. Thank you for sharing it with us. Allan

swabbie Posted June 30, 2021 Share #5 Posted June 30, 2021 Thank you for showing us this medal and for the story -- my first exposure. It certainly belongs here just as much as the Department of Transportation lifesaving medals do.
