Love of flags Posted June 27, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 27, 2021 Picked this one up from a online auction late last weekend. Love the multiple colored stars. Haven't seen many banners with blue, red and silver stars together. Love the multiple red stars. I only have a few examples of banners with red stars. Plus the kicker is this banner has the history of who the stars represented. Now to figure out where its from. Anyone know what Plain C. E. Is? I'm sure plain is maybe the town, but what is C. E.? P.S. Based on some information from some fellow collectors C.E. could mean Christian Endeavor. Also based on some small research most of the men are from Plain Township Ohio. Second banner I received in yesterday. Thanks to a quick heads up from my longtime mentor and friend Nick Artimovich. Thank you for allowing me to add this one to my collection, when you could have easily added it to yours. This one has seen better days! But its look just had me from the beginning. Price didn't hurt either! [emoji12] What do you guys think would be the best way to preserve this one? Some kind of pressure mount? Acid free and UV glass or plexi? dhcoleterracina Posted June 27, 2021 Share #2 Posted June 27, 2021 Both are very cool. Strange wording..."All were members of the Plain C.E. (or G.E.)". If it were a place, would they have said it like that? "All lived in Plain C.E." would be more natural. It sounds like they were taking about a business? church? some other organization rather than a place. So the silver star refers to being wounded? What do the red stars mean? Mr.Jerry Posted July 10, 2021 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2021 I really like that top one! With addition of the silver star, I would think the red ones are MIA/POW.
manayunkman Posted July 10, 2021 Share #5 Posted July 10, 2021 That Plain C. E. flag represents a lot of angst sorrow and suffering for such a small group. Very nice.
