Story Posted June 27, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 27, 2021 Otherwise known as Armored Fighting Vehicle IDentification, these was a repetitiously-taught class for tankers and cavalry scouts. https://www.mastergunner.net/afvid/ That's what all those decks of cards were for that you now find at flea markets. While teaching from slides and flashcards is one way to do it, we use to supplement the learning experience with models. The issue ones were @ 1/35th scale, but they were pretty basic. We'd build better models, to make things fun-er. So, what is it? Hint - I got tired of looking at it in plain old green, so I gave it a base coat for United Nations in Africa. PS - spinoff from this thread https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/359570-m12-a1-practice-antitank-mine/

Those models were pretty basic and the selection limited. The concept dates back to WW2, where the War Department enlisted the toy industry to make 1/32nd (?) scale models for the original identification classes.
