Combat star welding

Recommended Posts

What do you all think of this set of wings? I think it looks promising but I am aware of the issue where combat stars and other attachments have been put on post war. I have 4 pairs of jump wings but nothing with any additional hardware.

It comes with a serialized Purple Heart but I don't know if they're the same group.

You will never know if that was done in 1944 or 1974, plain and simple.

I suspect there is some CSI-esque metallurgical analysis that could be done, but to what end?

They are proper-looking campaign stars, FWIW.

But then again, I made a set of these for a local paratrooper years ago.  He was wearing a set of wings on his hat, and one on his M42, and gave a pair to a young man at a D-Day ceremony.  When he got home, he realized that he’d given the pair away that had his two stars and invasion spearhead on them.  So I made him a replacement set, using original stars and spearhead, but in a way that they could be distinguished from originals.

I think this set stands a good chance of being genuine. The BIN asking price for the wings and PH is high though given the fact that there is no name or attribution. I've actually found these wings w/ stars to be a hard sell for the reasons mentioned above.

It is high but advantageous being listed in CAD.

Doesn't a serialized PH imply it was assigned to someone or are there serialized, unassigned PH?

I realize I spoke to you back in March about a pair of wings you had for sale that had two stars secured with blobs of solder.
