The "How Many Coats of Paint" game

With all the great lids lately, this seems like the ugly ugly ugly stepsister but is more for fun than anything else.

Fixed bail McCord, possibly an earlier one based on the bail dimples with a later Seamans liner.

A very basic set.

Now the fun part. I think there are at least three coats of paint on the steel: the original, possibly red and then finally gray.

The liner has at least two, probably three, maybe four: possibly the original paint, white for sure, definitely gray and it looks like between the the time it was white and it's current color, it was painted aircraft anti-corrosion yellow.

My guess is that it was a Navy helmet at one time but I have no clues other than paint.

It's fun to see helmets like this that had long service lives and many different coats of paint.

My dad has a WWII liner that has factory green, plus later coats of blue, yellow, black and white, and I had an MP helmet once that had been repainted so many times it was noticeably heavier than a regular M1.
