scottplen Posted June 23, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 23, 2021 Here is a group that just arrived in the mail ! he was in commander of Battery A 3rd Battalion 82nd Artillery 196th IB (the flying Red Horsemen ) flown in to Kham Duc special forces camp in May 1968 to reinforce the camp . These 3 guns helped cover the evacuation of this camp as it was being overrun. the gun were destroyed by artillery and mortar fire but 2 other guns dropped in and another one made from damaged gun keep firing at the NVA . I believe army commendation with V was for same action ? He retired as a Major I believe ? Later becoming the mayor of a Kansas town with a park named after him . The medals are not named and glued to backing . this was a tragic battle many losses of soldiers ,Airmen and civilians with planes shot down . Found a pic on internet of him !
