I kept photographs of three below variants of this same oval which all identify it as an oval from the Vietnam War and worn by the 1st Bn., 502nd Inf. Abn., 1st Bde., 101st Abn. Div.

I'm not disputing your identification I was in the 1/502 in Vietnam and do not remember ever seeing this patch. That is not saying that it is wrongly identified, just saying.

1st Brigade 101st Airborne Division (Sep) 1965-67.

1st Battalion, 327th Infantry

2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry

2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry

So is it for the 2/502?  Ovals really stop being worn in the 101 when it becomes an Airmobile Division during 1968, a real lack of Jump Qualified Infantry Series EMs.
