M24 Chaffee Posted June 22, 2021 Share #3 Posted June 22, 2021 That’s amazing! I’ve never seen a photo grouping of one soldier like that! Is that the Colt revolver version of the Springfield musket? Frank
Marktk36thIL Posted June 22, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted June 22, 2021 Hi Frank, It is. M1855 Colt Revolving Rifle. It may have been a studio prop as the 36th never had the CRR in any ordnance returns, but never say never. Some members of the 36th had their portraits taken with a Snell alteration m1841 rifle, but only Company B was issued them. They were not fond of the m1816s they received in Sept. 1861, so they borrowed the "newest" rifle in the ranks, the m1841.
