Marktk36thIL Posted June 22, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 22, 2021 This ended up at the Chattanooga History Center from an Ohio estate. Was likely owned by a member of the 39th Georgia Inf. before it was taken back to the Buckeye state.

manifestdestiny Posted July 3, 2021 Share #4 Posted July 3, 2021 Condition is awesome. I've always loved the shoulder strap buckles of the British import knapsacks. I assume this is an Isaac's and Campbell made pack. Is there any evidence of the Isaac and Campbell contract mark in the interior of the bag? Marktk36thIL Posted July 3, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted July 3, 2021 13 hours ago, manifestdestiny said: This one was actually sub-contracted by Isaac and Campbell to Ross and Company, whom then sub-sub-contracted it to an independent maker. Ross and Co. had stamps to use (I have a British expense pouch with a Ross and Co. stamping), but probit did not mark their sub-contracted items. My brother has a US Navy captured English knapsack that doesn't have English markings as well.
manifestdestiny Posted July 3, 2021 Share #7 Posted July 3, 2021 Thanks for the clarification. I love stuff with a Western provenance and the Vicksburg/Port Hudson campaigns in particular.
